Y4 St Helens 150 celebrations - past pupil visit 5.7.18

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 4 Year: 2017 - 2018

As part of our St Helens 150 celebrations, Year 4 have been learning about Beechams as a company which began and grew in St Helens.

Due to the children studying the pharmaceutical developments made by Beechams plc, we invited a past Bleak Hill pupil who now has a PhD in Biochemistry to share his knowledge with the children and allow them to take part in some small experiments.

The children learnt about the difference between a bacteria cell and a virus cell, as well as how bacteria is spread and the exhistance of good bacteria and bad bacteria all around us. The also became researchers as they took swabs from around the classroom, which the rubbed onto an agar plate to see if bacteria would grow. We will soon find out how clean.... or not our classroom is.

I'm sure the children will join all of the staff in saying another huge thank you to Dr Goodman who provided the chlidren with a wonderful experience and showed them all what can be achieved if they continue to work hard at Bleak Hill.
