Pupil Premium

The pupil premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. All schools are required to report on the amount of funding received and how this is being used. Once information is available, the impact of the funding will also be reported.

  • For the academic year 2012 Bleak Hill Primary has received £8,717 in Pupil Premium funding.
  • For the academic year 2013 Bleak Hill Primary has received £21,600 in Pupil Premium funding.

This was, and continues to be used as follows:

  • Providing intervention programmes for Children eligible for FSM, LAC, underachieving pupils and those with SEN (Special Educational Needs).
  • To help employ additional teachers/teaching assistants who provide a targeted level of support to some of our most vulnerable children so as they can make the progress expected of them.
  • To provide one-to-one tuition for some pupils.
  • Provide Revision Clubs for identified pupils and purchase of materials.
  • Provision of appropriate resources to improve reading.
  • Provision of enrichment activities including sporting activities for identified groups.
  • Gardening Club provision for identified groups.

The impact of this work was evident in:

  • Improved attainment at the end of Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two.
  • Increased and sustained attendance across school.

We use this money to subsidise educational visits, including residential trips, for example by funding transport or board and lodgings. For some children this has a huge impact on their self-esteem and confidence. All matters regarding the use of Pupil Premium funds are treated with discretion and in confidence. Highly effective monitoring and tracking enabled and enables flexible and appropriate intervention to be put in place, supported by the Pupil Premium.
