YR6 - Democracy Debate - 10th Oct 2018

Lesson: Learning Outside the Classroom

Class: Year 6 Year: 2018-2019

The St Helens Youth Service hosted an excellent, 'Primary Democracy Debate' at St Helens Town Hall today. A selection of YR6 children from all over St Helens were invited to attend the debate and participate in a rather thought-provoking workshop about, Children's Rights and Children's Charter.

Children divided into groups to debate their understanding around the UN Rights of the Child and discussed how they feel this should look in St Helens. Everybody got chance to:

  • voice their opinion
  • present their findings in the 'Council Chamber'
  • vote for their favourite proposals
  • meet the Mayor

It was a fantastic experience and one we hope can be repeated in years to come - well done to all involved!
