YR3 - Ecolibrium - 23rd November 2017

Lesson: Learning Outside the Classroom

Class: Year 3 Year: 2017 - 2018

Talk about an action packed afternoon - the children in 3H have spent a wonderful afternoon in the school garden!  We thought it would be a good idea to compliment our current topic of 'rocks & soils', by getting all hands-on with the real deal in our very own garden.

The afternoon was hosted by John and Sue, from Ecolibrium, who shared an extensive array of knowledge with the children around the following areas:

  • Compost bins - what can / can't you put in them?
  • How soil is made - this included looking at samples of soils (and worms!) with a microscope.
  • Experimenting with mixtures of water and soil - learning that soil is full of air.
  • Looking at samples of a variety of different rocks and minerals.

The children really enjoyed themseleves - they got stuck in, asked lots of questions and finished the afternoon by sampling some tasty worms ....... jelly laces to you and I!
