YR6 - Ecolibrium - 19th October 2017

Lesson: Learning Outside the Classroom

Class: Year 6 Year: 2017 - 2018

The HEAVY rain didn't stop us from having an action packed afternoon in the polytunnel today.

We started the session by taking part in an apple tasting test - we had to decide which apple was the best! The criteria to decide this was based on appearance, juiciness, texture, cruchiness and sweetness - it is safe to say, that the Pink Lady apple won hands down!

We then moved on to a variety of jobs:

  • Trimming the grape vine
  • Using hogweed & cans to make more rooms in the bug hotel!
  • Turning beds over and preparing them for planting out
  • Planting a variety of Muscari and Tulip bulbs - that once flowered will be offered for sale in the Spring term
  • Planting acorns and labelling pots

It is lovely to see how engaged the children are and how much they enjoy being in the school gardens - presumably they garden for you at home too?
