Year 3 children had the opportunity to trial some Paralympic activities during their PE lesson last week. The first activity was Boccia which is a target game and the second activity was Seated Volleyball. The children found both activities really challenging but thoroughly enjoyed taking part. The Volleyball session was particularly difficult as the children were not allowed to stand up or kneel up. The children also tried a range of equipment for the volleyball session. Keep an eye out for these activities in this summers Paralympic Games.

The School Games is a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive school sport. Bleak Hill enters many competitions in St Helens and has regularly qualified for Merseyside finals. The School Games website will give regular updates about competitions which take place both on school site and at other St Helens venues.

Children from KS2 took part in a Boccia competition on Tuesday 17th November. In total 17 schools took part. Bleak Hill successfully qualified for the quarter finals where they went on to play Sutton Oak. Successfully winning that game the children then faced Eccleston Lane Ends in the semi final. This was a really close game with Bleak Hill again winning 4-2. This meant qualifying for the final where Bleak Hill faced St. Aidans. This was a really good game with points being won with only centimetres to spare. Bleak Hill played really well and achieved the silver medal losing 4-2. Well done to all children it was great to see how well they played as a team.

Children from Yr 5 and Yr 6 took part in the St Helens Sportshall Athletics Competition on Friday 6th November. 16 schools competed in a range of running, throwing and jumping events. Congratulations to all competitors from Bleak Hill on coming 2nd overall and as a result they go on the represent St Helens in the next round of competition in March 2016. Good luck.
